About

I am an independent researcher with a background in race and ethnic studies, sociology, social policy, and public health. My strong dedication to social justice related-work is informed by my personal experiences with social inequality, inspiring me to develop academic projects that bring attention to important equity-relevant issues.

Current Research

Currently, my scholarly work focuses on the unique positionality of Black biracial individuals. This builds on my previous research with marginalized minority groups. My aim is to bring attention to the experiences of this often-overlooked subgroup of mixed-heritage individuals (those with one Black parent and one white parent, who are perceived as Black by society). I consider that this work is strengthened by my own positionality as a member of this community.

Professional Background

Earlier in my career, I worked at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA, where I contributed to several initiatives addressing racial health disparities. I have authored/co-edited a number of significant publications examining  how societal factors, particularly racial discrimination, impact the health outcomes of African American men. This work was among the first systematic explorations of these issues in relation to this population and reframed prevailing narratives concerning their health.
